Half-day Excursion

Tuesday 1 December

Two World Cultural Heritage Sites the old town of Goslar and a thousand years of mining and living on the Rammelsberg Mountain.

The tours below ground the WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE RAMMELSBERG provide a unique insight into the activity of the people on the northern edge of the Harz Mountain region.

Please check here now which of the two provided tours below ground you like to attend.

Tour A: Roederstollen halfdayexcursion: 31 out of 90

It is a walking tour which brings you back to what it was like in 1784
It’s the special recommendation

Roederstollen back to what it was like in 1784. During the 1 hour walking tour you pass through an impressive network of galleries, water wheels and shafts. You follow the route of the water, channelled into the mine to set four water wheels in motion. Two of these wheels served in the transportation of ore while both of the others were used to lift the water out of the mine. You enter into the mysterious atmosphere of the Rammelsberg underground world and the breath taking blaze of colour of its minerals.

Tour B: Mine Train halfdayexcursion: 5 out of 30

The tour shows you more recent history and you will be carried by a train into the mountain.

With the mine train on the spot: mining in the 20th century. The Richt Shaft was the first pit in the Rammelsberg in which ore was transported by electric power. In 1911 it went into operation after the use of water wheels for ore transportation, as can be seen in the Roeder Gallery, had been discontinued. The jerking and jolting mine train carries you 500 metres into the Richt Shaft. Surrounded by droning machines you learn how mechanisation changed the daily work of the Rammelsberg miners.

I don’t like to attend any tour halfdayexcursion: 8 out of 999
